Veneration of the Cross is a ritual that happens every year during the Good Friday Mass. The priest walks up the aisle with a veiled Crucifx repeating " This is the Wood of the Cross, on which is Hung the Savoir of the World." and we respond, "Come let us worship." Adoration or Veneration of the image or representation of Christ's cross does not mean that we worship the material object but rather what it represents. In kneeling before the crucifix and kissing it we are paying the highest honor to our Lord's cross as the instrument of our salvation. The priest says the words, "Behold, the Wood of the Cross" and we affirm, "We adore Thee, O Christ, and we bless Thee because by Thy Holy Cross Thou has Redeemed the World."
